Being stationed here at Shaw AFB, I have seen many-a-deployment. While it's hard to think that you'll be missing a loved one for x-amount of months (or years), Homecomings always bring me a sense of joy and pride. That first embrace with your husband after not touching for what seems like an eternity can not be topped by anything. I always loved seeing families reunited for the first time. Photographing them, I get choked up. every. single. time.
Over the course of four days, I photographed the return of 14 of the United States' deadliest Airmen. These shoots included every obstacle a photographer can think of : changes in returns, days getting pushed back, rain clouds looming overhead, a 3 AM showtime! I can only imagine what was going on in the heads of the loved ones eagerly waiting for the return.
Thank you, Shooters, for trusting me to capture these heartwarming moments. And as always, thank you for your service!
The photos shown below are just a small example of why I do what I do...
They set up a shaving station to get off those mustaches as soon as they got off the jets!
